Jewish parents struggle with the same issues as Christian parents.
Conservative Christians often wrestle with issues like Halloween... "How do we raise our kids in a world that pushes spooks and goblins without having our kids feel deprived because they don't go out and grab the freebies?"
Some Churches will have "Fall parties" on October 31 to provide an alternative... but then should kids come in costumes? Do they dress as Bible characters? If they can't they might still feel cheated.
We all know the dilemmas of raising Christian kids in a secular world.
Have you ever considered what it's like to raise a Jewish kid in a Christian world? You know, many people see that some of the medieval origins of today's Hannukkah celebration were the same type of thing- an attempt to provide Jewish kids an alternative to Christmas carols and trees and presents. And, there's probably a grain of truth to this supposition.
